Choosing a conversation level for your child
A conversation level tells Peko how to talk with your child. You choose it in the Peko Pal app, and Peko uses it for talking, answering questions, and making books, pictures and printed pages.
The five levels
| Level | Usually fits |
|---|---|
| Little | Ages 3 to 5 |
| Growing | Ages 6 to 8 |
| Big kid | Ages 9 to 12 |
| Teen | Ages 13 to 17 |
| Adult | Ages 18 and up |
The best match is usually your child's age. But you know your child best. A curious seven-year-old may be happier at Big kid, and a younger-feeling ten-year-old may be happier at Growing. Pick the one that sounds like how you would want someone to talk with them.
How the levels feel different
How Peko talks. At Little, Peko uses short, simple sentences and a lot of warmth and play. As the levels go up, sentences get longer and the words get bigger. At Teen and Adult, Peko talks more like a friendly grown-up and doesn't talk down.
How deep the answers go. Ask why the sky is blue and a Little child hears a quick picture they can hold in their head. A Big kid hears a bit about light and how it bends. At Adult, Peko can go as deep as the question does.
What Peko makes. Books, pictures and printed pages are made to suit the level. Little gets big friendly letters, few words and cartoon-style pictures. Growing and Big kid get more story, more detail and busier pages. Teen and Adult get a cleaner, more grown-up look and longer, richer writing.
Protections at every level
Some protections don't depend on the level. They apply at Little, and they still apply at Adult. Peko never makes nudity or sexual pictures, and Peko's safety checks and the content filters of the services behind its voice and pictures still apply at every level. If Peko can't help with something, it gently offers a different idea.
The level changes how Peko talks and what it makes. It doesn't change these protections.
Choosing and changing the level
You pick a level when you create your child's profile or set up a Pal, and nothing is chosen for you. To change it later, open your child's settings in the Peko Pal app and choose another level under Conversation level.
Changing it is free and happens right away. It takes effect on your child's next conversation with Peko. You can change it as often as you like, for example as your child grows.
Peko doesn't ask for or keep your child's birthday. The level is the only thing it uses.
For other settings you control, see Settings in the Peko Pal app and Pictures your child makes with Peko.
