Peko Bot
Peko Bot is a friendly robot companion your child can talk to. It is an AI app: your child asks a question or says something, and Peko answers out loud a moment later. It works like a walkie-talkie, so there is nothing to look at.
While your child holds the button, their voice is sent live over the internet to a cloud AI service so it can answer. Peko Bot needs Wi-Fi and does not work offline. You can monitor conversations and usage from the Peko Pal app. See Reading your child's conversations with Peko.
The buttons
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Action button, press and hold | Starts listening. Talk while you hold it. If Peko is speaking, this stops it and starts a new question. |
| Action button, let go | Sends what was said and Peko answers. A very quick tap (under about a quarter of a second) sends nothing and just stops Peko talking. |
| Action button, double-press | Not used in this app |
| D-pad up / down / left / right | Not used in this app |
| Volume buttons | Louder and quieter, as in every app |
| Power button | A quick press leaves Peko Bot and returns to the main menu, as in every app |
What you'll hear and see
- When Peko Bot opens, the light glows magenta while it connects. Peko then greets your child. If they were chatting a moment ago, it carries on instead of saying hello again. If a friend has left a message, the greeting mentions it.
- While waiting for a question, the light twinkles calmly.
- The light turns solid green the instant the button is pressed, while Peko listens.
- After letting go, the light breathes slowly in cyan while Peko thinks.
- While Peko speaks, the light pulses with the sound of its voice.
- If it cannot connect, or the account has a problem, the light pulses red. Leave and reopen the app to try again.
Settings in the Peko Pal app
Open your child's device in the Peko Pal app, choose Peko Bot, and tap Peko AI Settings. That is where you choose what Peko knows about your child: their name and conversation level (see Choosing a conversation level), anything you write under What Peko Knows, and their city or ZIP code for the weather. You can also list Topics to Avoid, and switch each of these on or off: reading and sending messages, calling friends, helping add new friends, kid-safe web search, remembering recent conversations, listening history, and opening apps and settings. To see conversations and usage, open Activity & Usage.
Tips
- Hold the button for the whole question, and let go when finished.
- To interrupt a long answer, tap the action button once, or hold it to ask something new.
- If Peko does not answer, check the Wi-Fi. See Wi-Fi.
- Peko can also open other apps, start a story, read new messages from friends, or change the volume when asked.
Good to know
- You decide what Peko knows about your child and what it is allowed to do. See Settings above.
